Dear Liaisons:

For many years I had the responsibility that you now have received from your Bishop: Diocesan Liaison for the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement. I had the opportunity in this role to be a part of the beginning stage of the evolvement of the initial liaisons into the Association of diocesan Liaisons. Over the years this group of dedicated men and women, clergy, religious and lay have provided a great service both to one another in support and to the broad renewal through theological reflections.

You play a part important role in the life of the local church. You are your Ordinary’s personal representative to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement in the diocese. As such, your responsibility is to inform the Bishop about developments in the Charismatic Renewal outreach locally, as often as he desires. Over and beyond this, the role of the liaison varies from diocese to diocese, from a full-time position to the other end of the spectrum.

I urge you to give as much time to the pastoring of the Charismatic Renewal Movement as it needs in order to enable those involved to move fully in the Spirit for the good of the Church. Where there has been a strong leadership on the part of the liaisons and those working with them the Charismatic Renewal Movement has grown and has borne good fruit.

As we move into the third millennium, I believe that we will experience a new spiritual renewal grace poured upon the Church. The Charismatic Renewal Movement will play an important part in how this grace will impact the lives of any. May each of you be guided by the Holy Spirit as you respond with new energy to this new ‘springtime’.

With personal good wishes, I remain

Sincerely yours in the Lord

Most Reverend Sam G. Jacobs
